28 June 2011
Guildhall, London

The opulent surroundings of Guildhall, a magnificent medieval Grade I listed landmark, provided a stunning setting for the 2011 Fundraising Gala. The evening started with a pre-performance Champagne Taittinger reception in the Old Library where they were serenaded by Orchestra musicians. Guests proceeded to the magnificent Great Hall, where they were treated to a very special performance of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. The Orchestra and Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski were joined by celebrated actor Simon Callow as the narrator, taking the guests on a wonderful journey back to their childhood. This was followed by an exquisite meal in the company of Royal Patron HRH Duke of Kent, Orchestra musicians, supporters and pillars of the music and business communities.

The Orchestra has developed a reputation for the very best performances of adventurous repertoire that both challenge and entertain its audiences. This year’s Gala was dedicated to supporting that which is at the heart of the organisation; the musicians, the artists with whom we work, and the critically acclaimed music that they produce together. We are pleased to announce that the evening raised £103,000 which will ensure the Orchestra can continue to inspire audiences both on and off the concert platform. This includes an impressive £54,000 raised on the night itself through the auction and raffle ticket sales.
