Elgar 150th Anniversary Concert
Thomas Beecham Group Patrons joined supporters of the Elgar Foundation at the Royal Festival Hall to mark the 150th Anniversary of Elgar's birth. Guests attended a pre-concert drinks reception and post-concert dinner hosted by Dame Janet Baker, President of the Elgar Society and Timothy Walker, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in the presence of the Orchestra's Patron HRH The Duke of Kent KG.
Korngold Private Recital and Reception
Thomas Beecham Group Patrons marked composer Wolfgang Eric Korngold's life and works, fifty years on from his death. Hosted by the Austrian Ambassador, Her Excellency Ambassador Matzner at her private residence, the evening included a drinks reception and an interview with Korngold's Granddaughter, Kathrin Korngold, led by author and journalist Brendan Carroll.
Season Launch
Benefactors and Thomas Beecham Group Patrons joined Principal Conductor, Vladimir Jurowski, and Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Timothy Walker, at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday 31 January 2008 for the launch of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's 2008/09 London concert season. Vladimir Jurowski made a short presentation outlining the new season and highlighting its themes and Guest Artists.
Thomas Beecham Group Concert
In recognition of the support given to the London Philharmonic Orchestra by the members of the Thomas Beecham Group the Orchestra named the concert on Saturday 2 February “The Thomas Beecham Group Concert”. To mark the occasion, members of the Thomas Beecham Group joined the evening's conductor and soloist for dinner at the Royal Festival Hall after the concert .
‘Everything you ever wanted to know about Woodwind, but were afraid to ask!’
An evening with the Orchestra’s Woodwind section
Following the very popular brass and percussion evenings during previous seasons, the Orchestra's Woodwind section presented a an informal evening at the Orchestra's regular rehearsal venue, Henry Wood Hall. Members of the woodwind section performed a selection of their favourite pieces, guiding guests through the various instruments in the woodwind section as well as providing a glimpse into life in the Orchestra. The performance was coupled with a drinks reception on arrival and a post-performance informal buffet supper served in Henry Wood Hall's stunning crypt, where guests enjoyed chatting to musicians and staff.
London Philharmonic Orchestra Annual Gala

Each season our special events calendar culminates in the Orchestra’s Annual Fundraising Gala. This sumptuous black tie evening includes a performance and formal dinner and is held each year in a prestigious London venue. Past events have included an evening at St James’s Palace with renowned pianist Lang Lang, a Russian themed Gala at London’s Guildhall with (then) Guest Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski, a glamorous evening at the Banqueting House with international soloist Sergey Khachatryan, a midsummer’s evening at Lincoln’s Inn and a spectacular 75th Anniversary Gala in the beautiful setting of The Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, with music led by Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski and compered by actor Simon Callow. The historic surroundings of London’s Guildhall provided a spectacular backdrop to the 2008 Gala evening. Hosted by the Trustees of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the event was this year held in the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent KG, Patron of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein of Jordan, Patron of the Orchestra’s work in Dubai. The Gala 2008 showcased the work of the Orchestra’s education programme, offering a wonderful evening of musical entertainment for special guests and supporters whilst raising funds for this important area of our work.
