"Music for a Midsummer's
Evening"
Wednesday 21st June 2006, Lincoln's
Inn |
|
 |
The
Orchestra's Annual Fundraising Gala evening, entitled Music
for a Midsummer's Evening, took place on Wednesday
21 June in the spectacular surroundings of Lincoln's Inn.

Following a summer cocktail reception to the sounds of flute
and harp, guests were treated to a performance of Mozart's
Clarinet Quintet by members of the Orchestra before enjoying
a wonderful dinner in the Great Hall. Later on in the evening,
the winners of the evening's prize draw were announced and
guests waited in anticipation to find out if they were the
lucky winner of our top prize, an all expenses paid trip to
Sydney in January 2007 including tickets to the Sydney Festival
and to the Ashes test match. There was also a musical surprise
to enjoy with coffee, as soprano Majella Cullagh delighted
guests with a selection of songs that were the perfect end
to a midsummer's evening. The event proved a huge success
raising nearly £100,000 and we are incredibly grateful
to all the donors and attendees who helped us reach our total.

If you would like to receive information on our next Gala
event, please contact Sarah Tattersall on 020 7840 4209 or

As
part of a range of unusual and exclusive events that the Orchestra
runs across the year for existing and future supporters, acclaimed
pianist Nelson Goerner gave a private recital at the charming
home of actors Tom and Kara Conti in Hampstead. As well as
hearing Nelson play in such an intimate setting, it was also
a unique opportunity to visit this interesting house where
previous performers have included Isadora Duncan. To find
out more about similar events in the future, please contact
Georgina Cooper on 020 7840 4212 or email: georgina.cooper@lpo.org.uk

With Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maestro
Kurt Masur and musicians of
the London Philharmonic Orchestra
20th March 2006 |
|
 |
This
year the Orchestra's Development activities have gone international
with events in the United States complementing those here
in London. In September 2005, the British Ambassador to the
United States hosted a private dinner at his Washington residence
marking the launch of the London Philharmonic Orchestras
American Friends programme. It is hoped that the American
Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra - open to citizens
of the US who wish to support the Orchestra's work - will
grow in number over the coming years.
This launch was followed by a dinner in March 2006 at Avery
Fisher Hall in the presence of violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter
and André Previn, tour conductors Roberto Minczuk and
Neeme Järvi, the British Ambassador to the UN, and the
British Consul-General in New York. Also in attendance were
music lovers from New York and the locality, alongside members
of the Orchestra.

On
the 15th September the British Ambassador to the USA, Sir
David Manning, hosted a private dinner at his Washington residence

and beyond. The evening marked the launch of the London Philharmonic
Orchestra's American Friends programme which the Orchestra
plans to grow over the coming years to support future touring
activity in the USA. Please contact Mo Carrington on 020 7840
