On
Tuesday 5th July 2005, 200 guests joined HRH The Duke of Kent
at the Banqueting House for our annual gala evening. The event
was held in celebration of the Orchestra's forthcoming tours
to the USA in March and November 2006 and proved a huge success,
raising nearly £130,000.

Following a cocktail reception in the historic undercroft,
guests were heralded by a trumpet fanfare up to the Main Hall
where they were treated to a performance of Bach violin concertos
by soloists Sergey Khachatryan and the Orchestra's leader,
Boris Garlitsky, before enjoying a sumptuous dinner underneath
the spectacular Rubens painted ceiling. Later in the evening
BBC Radio 3 presenter Sean Rafferty held a very successful
charity auction with lots including a private tour of Melvyn
Tan's piano studios, a weekend in New York to hear the Orchestra
play at Avery Fisher Hall, a week in a luxury villa and two
tickets to hear Vladimir Jurowski's debut at La Scala, Milan
in January 2006.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra Gala is an annual event
to raise funds for a particular project or aspect of the Orchestra's
work. Our gala evenings in recent years have included a Russian-themed
Gala with conductor Vladimir Jurowski at the Guildhall in
2004, and an evening at St James's Palace with internationally
renowned pianist Lang Lang in 2003. Attendance is by special
invitation only and the Orchestra's Benefactors, Sponsors
and Corporate Members all have the opportunity to join us
for our flagship event of the year.

Benefactors
of the London Philharmonic Orchestra enjoyed a day out at
West Green House, Hampshire on Saturday 14th May 2005. Met
with a glass of champagne, guests were given a private tour
of the lovingly restored neo-classical gardens by the owner
and internationally acclaimed gardening author, Marylyn Abbott.
The tour was followed by a private recital in the drawing
room by pianist Melvyn Tan, who will be performing with the
Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the 19th and 21st
April 2006. Melvyn performed works by Scarlatti, Mozart and
Schubert on a beautiful grand piano, provided by Steinway
& Sons. The day's entertainment concluded with a delicious
3-course lunch and a chance to chat with Melvyn and the hosts.
This event at West Green House is one of a selection of private
events held for Benefactors each season, enabling them to
meet international soloists and the Orchestra's own players,
while supporting us in our work.

Principal
and Affiliate Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra
had the opportunity to venture behind the scenes at the Royal
Festival Hall in April, for a last glimpse of the performers'
backstage facilities before the closure of the hall for refurbishment
in July. The tour was led by Martin Höhmann, Chairman
of the Orchestra and first violinist. A drink in the Artists'
Bar followed this eye-opening experience.

Following
the Christie's event in early July, the 23rd October 2004
saw the culmination of the collaboration between the London
Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera Rara, with the concert performance
of Donizetti's Pia de' Tolomei.
Supporters of the partnership enjoyed a champagne reception
before the concert and a sumptuous dinner afterwards, joined
by London Philharmonic Orchestra players and soloists including
Manuela Custer, Bruce Ford, Roberto Servile and Majella Cullagh.
On Tuesday 30th November, the Orchestra held an event with
Accenture (an LPO Sponsor) at Two Temple Place, London. Guests
enjoyed a wonderful Christmas performance by the London Philharmonic
Choir and a Brass Quintet from the Orchestra, set in the beautiful
surroundings of Two Temple Place. Another ensemble of players
entertained guests at the British Museum on 6th December and
an octet of harpists thrilled attendees at the Victoria and
Albert Museum on 9th December.
The 3rd November and 8th December concerts saw our first "Seasonal
Sparkler" Corporate Bars where Benefactors and Corporate
supporters of the Orchestra enjoyed fine Australian sparkling
wine provided by our wine sponsor, Southcorp.
