London’s newest and most exciting and exclusive cultural group was launched at the Orchestra’s concert on Saturday 24 October at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. Guests rubbed shoulders with the Orchestra’s musicians and staff, including Trustees Dr. Catherine Høgel and Simon Yates (Managing Director, Co-Head European Equities at Credit Suisse) who officially launched the programme.
'What we heard was very much, as the Québécois conductor said in a recent Guardian interview, a young man's Bruckner. Nézet-Séguin's curiosity about this work was inexhaustible. Every phrase, from the halting opening of the first movement to the blazing close of the last, was laden with emphasis.' The Guardian
Guests enjoyed a demonstration by young British percussion soloist Colin Currie, followed by a pre-concert drinks reception in the glamorous St Paul’s Pavilion. The Orchestra’s world première performance of Rautavaara’s Incantations and Bruckner’s Symphony 8 was enjoyed by all, and members of the Orchestra, Guest Principal Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Colin Currie joined the party as celebrations continued after the concert.
