Between Two Worlds: exploring the life and work of Alfred Schnittke
15 November - 1 December 2009
Alfred Schnittke - a twentieth century Russian composer whose music weaves together an extraordinary melting pot of techniques and styles. A thoroughly individual voice, his influences include Bach and Mahler, Webern and Berg, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, and Russian sacred music.
This London Philharmonic Orchestra festival directed by Vladimir Jurowski explores Schnittke's music for film, theatre and the concert hall through concerts, film screening, opera and a study day. Watch a video made in response to Schnittke's music and click on the brochure below to view event details.
