In this final Mahler Anniversary Season pre-concert talk, Surrey University Lecturer Jeremy Barham explores the early 20th century collection of folk poetry 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn' (The youth's magic horn), placing it in historical and literary context of the German Romantic movement. The collection is perhaps best known through the songs by Mahler, and this talk looks at the composer's masterful mirroring of the texts through the music.
