Why are you taking part in the 10K?

Nynke (pictured second from right): To raise money for the Education Department of the LPO! I feel lucky that my children can come and hear live concerts, and I think all children should have that opportunity!

Have you had any experience of working on any of the LPO’s education programmes?

Yes, I have done several education programmes. I find it very interesting and rewarding work.

How experienced a runner are you?

I wasn't really a runner before I signed up for this but now I am running more regularly. I blame my colleagues for having dragged me into doing this 10K race, but I am starting to enjoy running!
I used to go out for just 15 minutes once or twice a week, but now I have increased my distance (and time) quite a bit. And I have started to do an outdoor circuit training class once a week which is fun.

Do you find that running has any particular advantages for you as a musician?

For musicians a relaxed body and a clear mind are important, and I find that running certainly helps to achieve that. I find it quite therapeutic, and I feel generally more positive and energetic after a run.

Do you have any tips for people who are considering taking up running?

I am not the right person to answer that question as I have only just started running a bit more seriously!

What made a difference for me was not to do boring rounds in the same park, but to actually go somewhere beautiful or interesting! And going together helps; when you are chatting, you are distracted and before you know you have done more than you thought you could.
