Concert reviews, Brighton Dome: Joseph Swensen conducts Wagner, Bruch and Tchaikovsky

On Friday 14 March at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, 90-year-old Stanisław Skrowaczewski conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Bruckner's Symphony No. 3. This was preceded by Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, performed by 24-year-old Benjamin Beilman.

On Friday 7 March 2014, 20-year-old Venezuelan conductor Ilyich Rivas made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. He conducted a programme of Dvořák, Mahler, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich with piano soloist Simon Trpčeski.

The concert was repeated at Southend on Saturday 8 March and Eastbourne on Sunday 9 March.

Concert reviews: Vladimir Jurowski conducts Brahms & Bruckner, 26 February 2014

On Wednesday 26 February 2014 at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski gave a concert comprised of Brahms's Double Concerto for Violin and Cello with soloists Julia Fischer and Daniel Müller-Schott, followed by Bruckner's Symphony No. 2. The concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and is available to listen again free of charge for 7 days via BBC iPlayer.

Concert reviews: Vasily Petrenko conducts Berlioz, Rachmaninoff & Elgar/Brahms, 21 & 22 February 2014

The London Philharmonic Orchestra gave three concerts this weekend, at London's Royal Festival Hall, Brighton Dome and Eastbourne's Congress Theatre. The Orchestra, under conductor Vasily Petrenko, performed Berlioz's Le Corsaire Overture, Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with pianist Kirill Gerstein, and Elgar's Symphony No. 2 (in London) and Brahms's Symphony No. 2 (in Brighton and Eastbourne).
