A Level online resources

The London Philharmonic Orchestra explored and analysed two set works from the Edexcel A” syllabus. They followed this with complete performances of both pieces.

You can watch the entire concert online. We have divided the event into four videos: the analysis of each work, and the performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Teachers' Resource Pack

The Teachers’ Resource Pack is produced in connection with the BrightSparks concerts. Teachers attending the concert will be notified by email when the pack is available to be downloaded from the website, usually 4-6 weeks before the concert. The pack includes biographies of featured composers, descriptions of pieces featured in the concert and classroom activities relating to the orchestra and repertoire. The LPO also provides teachers with access, through the Naxos Music Library, to recordings of the pieces from the concert. The pack is designed to meet the needs of the different Key Stages and can be used before and after the concert.

“I use the teachers pack as preparation for the concert. It is valuable if the children have heard and understood something about the music before attending the concert. It enhances their listening.” St Saviours Primary School, Lewisham

Teachers’ sessions
Teachers attending the BrightSparks concerts with their schools are offered free Teachers’ Sessions. The sessions take place approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the BrightSparks concerts. Places can be booked through the online BrightSparks application. Led by an LPO Music Leader, the sessions aim to:

  • explore the resource pack in more detail
  • develop innovative ways of bringing music to the classroom
  • provide teachers with activities that can be used before and after the concert
  • give attendees opportunities to meet other teachers and share ideas
  • give attendees the opportunity to meet with members of the LPO Education & Community Department

“The LPO is doing a great job, thank you for the opportunity…....The teacher session I attended was great fun , and the ideas given have helped improve me as a teacher – just imagine how many students will benefit from your input now!” Greenvale School, Lewisham
