The Open Ear Orchestra is currently developing and recording material to be used in an installation at the Southbank centre during the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s EXCITE! Week in June as well as creating new pieces to be performed live during the event.

In the Autumn of 2007 the Open Ear Orchestra worked with Roshi Nasehi, a contemporary Iranian singer, to create new music exploring Iranian culture and musical traditions. The culmination of this vibrant project was Rapture a concert given in the Spirit Level of the Southbank Centre on 9 December 2007. The Ensemble performed traditional Iranian pieces, specially arranged for the players, interspersed with improvisation and compositions inspired by aspects of Iranian culture and music whilst images of Iran - both ancient and modern – were projected on the walls of the venue inviting audience members to engage with the richness of the country’s cultural heritage.

The Open Ear Orchestra is open to accomplished and committed
players and singers from any background. Symphonic in nature,
it nonetheless ranges over many musical styles, as reflected
in its line up of players. Members of the London Philharmonic
Orchestra itself form the core around which the ensemble is
built. In addition, there are currently in excess of fifty
players on its books, sharing musical skills from the worlds
of jazz, rock, classical, world music and contemporary urban
genres.
The Open Ear Orchestra's unique feature is the opportunity
it gives to composers. Everything in its repertoire has been
written or devised by members or associates of the group.
