The Band is the London Philharmonic Orchestra's fusion ensemble for young people to write and perform their own music, influenced by the group members and the musical styles that they love. With a leader who has roots in jazz, funk and rock, and orchestral musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra involved in all sessions, our members take inspiration from blues, hip hop, reggae and soul as well as a wide range of other styles to create their own new tracks.
The ensemble regularly perform around South London including events at Southbank Centre and Lambeth Country Show. More recently they have also been recording their own material.
“The first time I came I was quite surprised at the diversity between ages and musicians; you’ve got a drumkit and a guy playing violin and you’ve got a bassoon. But it sounded really good. I’ll definitely be back next term and inviting a lot of people to come with me!” Onyi, aged 18 on The Band
