Animate Orchestra

Animate Orchestra is a new musical pathway for talented young people in the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham: a young person’s ‘orchestra for the 21st Century’. The Animate Orchestra will build a unique repertoire and artistic identity, formed and created by young people.

Animate rehearsal

Aims:

  • to inspire young people, through access to live professional performance
  • to create a new ensemble that acts as a local progression route for motivated and talented young musicians to support continued instrumental learning
  • to give young people artistic input into the music they make and perform, opportunities for Arts Award accreditation
  • to represent the diverse talents and ideas of children and young people in Greenwich and Lewisham

Who’s involved?
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (Trinity Laban), London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), Greenwich Music Service (GMS), Lewisham Music Services (LMS) and Greater London Authority (GLA) with Southbank Centre, the O2 and Blackheath Halls.

Who can take part?
Young people in years 6 – 8 who live or go to school in the London Boroughs of Greenwich or Lewisham and are learning an instrument. Vocal techniques and singing will be used during the project but it is not suitable for singers without instrumental skills. Instrumentalists may include DJs, technologists and those playing instruments from any cultural background, not limited to those traditionally associated with orchestral music.
